HNBR is the compound we reach for when a nitrile seal has to stay reliable in cold medium service. It is used predominantly for cold medium sealing, and in the automotive industry it carries power steering pipes and oil seals. Beyond automotive it appears in packer and screw pumps and in O-ring duty where standard nitrile is working at its limit.
Only values our own records support appear here. Anything we cannot evidence is left out rather than estimated.

Standard nitrile is cheaper and adequate for ordinary oil service. HNBR is what we specify when cold medium performance is the deciding factor.
FKM leads on chemical and high temperature resistance. HNBR is the better answer for cold medium duty.
EPDM does not belong anywhere oil is present, which rules it out of most HNBR applications.

FKM and FFKM sit at the top of the seal material range and are frequently confused with each other.

An O-ring is the cheapest part in most assemblies and the most common cause of a warranty return.

A plain O-ring is not the right answer for every dynamic duty, which is why the Y profile exists.

These two compounds cover an enormous share of industrial sealing between them, and they fail in each other's territory. Getting the boundary right removes most avoidable seal problems.
